چکیده

The main limitations of standard nadir-looking radar altimeters have been known for long. They include the lack of coverage (intertrack distance of typically 150 km for the T/P / Jason tandem), and the spatial resolution (typically 2 km for T/P and Jason), expected to be a limiting factor for the determination of mesoscale phenomena in deep ocean. In this context, various solutions using off-nadir radar interferometry have been proposed by Rodriguez and al to give an answer to oceanographic mission objectives. This paper addresses the performances study of this new generation of instruments, and dedicated mission. A first approach is based on the Wide-Swath Ocean Altimeter (WSOA) intended to be implemented onboard Jason-2 in 2004 but now abandoned. Every error domain has been checked: the physics of the measurement, its geometry, the impact of the platform and external errors like the tropospheric and ionospheric delays. We have especially shown the strong need to move to a sun-synchronous orbit and the non-negligible impact of

The Measurement Capabilities of Wide-Swath Ocean Altimeters

Among the instruments considered was the Wide-Swath Ocean Altimeter (WSOA), an interferometric radar capable of providing ocean topography over 200 km swaths. The design presented during the April '01 HOTSWG meeting was a design which had been proposed by JPL for inclusion as a demonstration mission together with the proposed Jason-2 mission. Due to limitations in the Jason bus, the instrument ...

Metrology, attitude, and orbit determination for spaceborne interferometric synthetic aperture radar

The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), scheduled for an 11 day Space Shuttle flight in 1999, will use an Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (IFSAR) instrument to produce a near-global digital elevation map of the earth’s land surface with 16 m absolute vertical height accuracy at 30 meter postings. SRTM will achieve the required interferometric baseline by extending a receive-only r...

Analysis of Large-scale Displacement Using Radar Interferometry Technology in Open-pit Mines (Case Study: Gol Gohar Sirjan Mine)

Abstract Mines with their displacements cause damage to infrastructure and land, so it is important to control the displacement caused by mines. Also, the amount of minerals extracted from mines has always been of interest to managers. On the other hand, radar interferometry, given the production of repetitive and full images and the acceptable accuracy of this method, in examining be sugge...

Application of Displacement Map Produced by Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar Technique in Height Datum Determination in the Subsidence Area

Damages due to subsidence such as destruction of watering system and agricultural fertile soil, wells increasing, damage to the roads, bridges and high ways and disordering in the water and gas supplying usually are irreparable and costly. As a huge amount bench marks of height network of Iran are placed in the subsidence area, changing their heights is a challenge for NCC. In this study, a new...

Shuttle Radar Topography Mission: DLR’s Interferometric SAR Processor for the Generation of a Global Digital Elevation Model

The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) will be launched in January 2000. Its intention is the global topographic mapping of the Earth’ surface. The data will be acquired by the first space-born single-pass synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometer. Within eleven days this mission will map all continents between 60latitude. The resulting data set is unique in two respects. Firstly, the ...
